This $500 scholarship is awarded to one talented freshman entering college in 2025 who demonstrates exceptional writing ability and a commitment to pursuing their educational and creative aspirations.

My Story

I signed up for a full-ride athletic scholarship before entering college. I was excited for the days to come after signing the paperwork for my collegiate deal. Life was sweet, and I eagerly waited for the remainder of my senior year.

Except. I woke up frantically! I sat straight up in bed on a random December night when the realization hit me. My athletic scholarship paid for my college tuition, but how would I pay for LIFE?! I was so concerned about how I would do my hair, where I would get money for feminine products and a host of other genuinely relevant concerns. I vehemently applied for academic scholarships in an attempt to offset some of my newly realized college expenses. I researched and discovered that outside of dorm essentials, a laptop would be key for my college success.

One $500 academic college scholarship later, I purchased my first-ever laptop. I carried that laptop through two degree programs, three cities, countless basketball road games, and seven years of my academic journey. It was on that laptop that I penned my first two books, which catalyzed my life's trajectory.

That scholarship was hope for a college girl with big aspirations. I did not know a one-time grant would transpire into a life of purpose, passion, and positioning. This scholarship was designed with the same desire to make such an opportunity available for someone else.

We at Pen Master are interested in providing the funding for one talented freshman to pursue their career and passion interests at the collegiate level.

Scholarship Overview

Award Amount: $500
Eligibility: High School Senior in the United States entering college as a freshmen in the Fall of 2025.
Application Deadline: March 28, 2025

Application Criteria

To apply, please prepare the following materials:

Written Submission: Your original work as outlined in the Writing Criteria below.** Submissions will be judged based on originality, clarity, creativity, and technical writing skills.
Personal Statement: A 500-word essay describing your passion for writing, your academic and career goals, and how this scholarship will help you achieve them.
Proof of Enrollment: A letter of acceptance or other documentation confirming your enrollment as a freshman in Fall 2025.
Academic Transcripts: A copy of your high school academic transcripts
Letter of Recommendation: A letter from a teacher, mentor, or other professional who can attest to your writing ability and character.

** Written submission must be a 12pt. typed Times New Roman double-spaced essay of 1,000-1,500 words on the topic: "How writing shapes our world and future." Be sure to address the impact you assume writing has in your chosen field of study.**
